How to Write a Great Fishing Report

What makes a fishing report great is the DETAILS like:

  • Amount, Species, and Size of fish caught
  • Techniques and Methods used to catch the fish
  • Lures, Baits, and Tackle used to catch the fish
  • Any other helpful tips like: location on the body of water, time of day, etc.

Example of a Great Fishing Report:

"Fishing was great! I caught 14 rainbow trout, and 3 of them were over 21 inches long. I was using a little 1/64 oz black marabou jig. I fished them slowly near the bottom about 50 feet away from the lily pads. Fishing was slow up until about 4 pm and then I started pulling them in one after the other. Tip: I found that when I use a 4lb line I get more bites than my buddies that use 8lb line."

Example of a Bad Fishing Report:

"Man, were the fish biting today. My reel was screaming the whole time."

Notice how the first example has a lot of helpful information but the second one has none. Always ask yourself if your fishing report is helpful to other anglers.

Now GO and write a Great Fishing Report.
