The big ones are in!!!! This is the perfect time to catch those HUGE spawning rainbows. We were out there using olive bead head nymphs through the ice in about 4 feet of water/ice. Caught a few lunkers. It was a blast.

Update: Looks like I left the lake a little early. More and Larger fish where caught at the Quartz Lake Fishing Derby than I thought. David Fifeld won first place with a rainbow trout weighing in at 2 lbs.13 oz. Second place went to Brett Fifeld with a rainbow trout weighing in at 2 lbs. 8oz. Tim Clark tied for third place with an arctic char also weighing in at 2 lbs. 8 oz. Congrats to the winners. Thanks to the Delta Christian Center for sponsoring this event!

The fishing sucked at the Quartz Lake Fishing Derby. I didn't even get a single bite. It was fun anyway though. I least I was out on the lake. Out of maybe 100 people only three (3) trout were caught, the largest being like 14 oz.

We arrived on Quartz Lake at 9am. We set up a portable ice house about 300 feet from shore, the water was about 6 feet deep. I used a spoon(half orange half green with black dots on it) with a small piece of shrimp on the hook. I set the lure about 3-5 inches from the bottom and jigged it every 2 seconds. It was only about ten minutes until the first fish ate my lure and i pulled out a 17 3/4 inch rainbow Trout. Every ten minutes we would have bites and we got away with 3 fish that day. Seems like the fish were going after bright and flashy lures that day...had a Great time

We rented an ice house out on the lake. We were there for about 2-3 hours. We fished a variety of lures and bait. We didn't get a single bite among 4 guys. I think it was the location of the ice house.

Fishing was great! I caught 14 rainbow trout, and 3 of them were over 21 inches long. I was using a little 1/64 oz black marabou jig. I fished them slowly near the bottom about 50 feet away from the lily pads.
